June Drought

June was still very much a 'farming' month, as I continued planting out the second crops of plants, dahlias and tending to the first planted baby plants which were now starting to get going :) June just happened to be the driest/ hottest June there could ever have been! Two IBC water tanks were installed to the guttering (thanks Dad <3), but not a sign of rain was to be seen!
Here in the UK, June started with a drought meeting being held by The Environment Agency after, apparently the driest Spring in 132 years!
I think that pretty much sums things up for June, but to add to this, personally I found it taxing; mentally, emotionally, and if I'm being honest, I was questioning how I was going to make this work!
Luckily for me, most of the flowers I had sown from seed were drought-tolerant and bloody hardy little things, and as it has been said by many a person before me...flowers want to grow!
I watered sparingly, focusing on the most needy (Remember those five Roses I had just planted in May anyone?!). I have to add though, all my roses, old and new, really surprised me with their resilience <3
June was definitely the month of the Rose, after all June is National Rose month, and my older roses put on a wonderful display to mark the occasion.
It's also the month in which British Flowers week falls, which is extra special and I made sure to create some lovely work dedicated to this, but I definitely want to go bigger next year!
June was very much a rinse and repeat kind of month, just trying my best to keep my plants alive whilst flower farmers up and down the country it seemed, were willing the rain to come, me included!
