August's reflections

Where, oh where has August gone?! It’s been a full-time occupation trying to keep up with the flowers, but that can’t be a bad thing, right?! 😊
I’ve spent a lot of this month planning and making notes on what’s worked and what needs improvement for next year.
On the plot, the biggest news is the arrival of the Dahlias, and they are flowering their socks off right now and looking wonderful!
I adore Dahlias, and they were in fact, the only flower I specifically requested for my own wedding!
If you don’t know much about Dahlias, they come in every shape, size and colour, and I’m confident there’s one for everyone 😊
Alongside the dahlias, we have so many other beautiful flowers in bloom right now, including a surprise favourite- Campanula (Canterbury Bells), which are so dainty and look like something straight out of a fairy tale. Earlier this month, I was asked to create a DIY bucket with the brief: ‘Fairy Garden’ and they were my immediate first choice. I will definitely be growing more next year!
Speaking of growing, I have started sowing next year’s flowers and have also started prepping the beds ready for my favourite thing in the Flower Year: BULBS!
Autumn is my favourite time, but a fresh, Spring morning filled with the first flowers of the year is difficult to beat & the time to plant them is just around the corner!
Before we get there though, there’s the small matter of the most magical time of the year (the 'Ber months)!
I have been planning for the rest of the season, including markets and events, and maybe what I’m most excited about: workshops!
As a qualified educator, I love teaching, and I can’t wait to help lots of you create your very own bespoke festive wreaths. I have been drying lots of flowers for you to choose from! Dates will be published next month, but you can drop me a direct message on social media or fill in the form of interest on the ‘workshops’ page of the website if you’d like to attend!
On reflection, August has certainly had some lows, but plenty of highs too.
I have been trying to share my work regularly, throughout 2025, and I would say this is the biggest win for August, as I have remained consistent whilst posting more often. Now I don’t know if I’ll ever be a daily poster, but posting has become easier as I have been more consistent!
My biggest area for improvement is work/ life balance. Although August has been wonderful and I’ve had more opportunities to stretch myself creatively; time for myself outside of work has been few and far between. I am the biggest advocate for taking care of your wellbeing; eating well, taking breaks, and simply not burning yourself out, but I have to confess, I have not been too good at that this year. There’s been barriers to overcome and hurdles I’m still jumping, but confident I will get there 😊
If you are in a similar position, always remember; one step forward, however small, is still a step in the right direction; go easy on yourself, and remember your small wins, especially on the days when those small wins feel massive <3
Here’s to all the 'Ber months, and more time to spend with family and friends as the Summer season and its long days draw to a close!
Peace and love, Meg.
